Water quality
Billions of dollars are spent each year to protect the quality of water people receive
(Grand Canyon University, 2015). Reviewing the local water quality report when posted each
year is important so that the city is help accountable for the results and upkeep. In 1972, The
Clean Water Act passed so that waterways and systems stayed clean (Grand Canyon University,
2015). The Safe Drinking Water Act followed the Clean Water Act and specifically protects
drinking water and the requirements of what the water contains or does not contain (Safe
Drinking Water Act, 2021). Further regulation on this end of the pollution potential is more vital
since consumed pathogenic organisms stand to cause a higher level of harm to any human life
which ingests it.
Walker Report
The yearly water quality report for Walker, Louisiana in 2020 shows the three local
sources of groundwater. Two areas were sampled for disinfection byproducts and the report
states that they are within normal range. The water quality report also goes on to list the several
source secondary contaminants as aluminum, iron, manganese, PH, and sulfate (Welcome to
Walker, Louisiana, n.d.). These were all collected on the same date and show to be within
normal range, though they are on the higher side of that range. The last test listed is the treated
secondary contaminants which stated that there were no detected results for the 2020 calendar
year. At the bottom of the report, the city of Walker asks that the community helps to conserve
and protect the water sources that provide clean water for everyone. This is a nice reminder that
water conservation is important and to be aware and practice in every home.
