Children with special needs require special treatment and need qualified professionals to adopt varied strategies to improve learning. A research proje ct usually addresses a specific topic or aspect and then connects it to an established theory or set of theories. The research papers also incorporate some scholarly or peer -reviewed articles that make the basis of theory used. The theoretical framework de scribes the theory that explains why the research problem exists (The University of Southern California, 2021). In this research, Everhart (2004) focuses on using visual instructions in educating children with verbal and hearing disabilities. One of the a uthor’s theoretical fundamentals is about the use of the ‘multisensory approach.’ This enables students to use more than one sense in learning such as kinesthetic, visual, and auditory methods (Everhardt, 2004, p.1). Various studies show that low academic students tend to perform better when multisensory activities are used especially in English lessons (Yanilis, 2020). The report presents a detailed literature review relevant to the topic. For example, the pendulum swing approach in reading encourages usin g a variety of reading methods for each student. The author also seems interested in teaching sight words using sign language. Sight words are the words students normally learn by heart but Everhardt had to teach this skill to his special education student s. Pitino (2002) in his study found that signing improves the fine motor development of children who have delayed reaction (as cited in Everhart, 2004). The study also provided a great deal of literature for children suffering from hearing loss and discove red that “accuracy improved the most for deaf children when sign and spoken language were used together” (Everhart, 2004, p.5).
