Solution:
To find the partial correlation coefficient ( r12.3) between variables 1 (X1) and 2 (X2),
controlling for variable 3 (X3), you can use the following formula:

r12.3 = (r12 - r13 * r23) / √((1 - r13^2) * (1 - r23^2))

Given the simple correlation coefficients:
r12 = 0.492,
r13 = 0.927,
r23 = 0.758,

Let's substitute these values into the formula:

r12.3 = (0.492 - 0.927 × 0.758) ÷ √((1 - 0.927^2) × (1 - 0.758^2))

Simplifying further:

r12.3 = (0.492 - 0.703) ÷ √ ((1 - 0.927^2) × (1 - 0.758^2))
r12.3 = -0.211 ÷ √ (0.007929 × 0.056084)
