SOFTWARE PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Assignment 3 | Semester 1 & 2 | 2023

• Contains complete solutions and required diagrams to all
required questions.
• Guaranteed very good marks!!!

, CASE
Grilloo is a successful restaurant in Cape Town CBD that specialises in flamed grilled
meals. The owner of Grilloo recently hired a software development company –
Designor – to design and install a smart ordering system for patrons. Designor
formulate Project X and Project Y to help the successful design and implementation
of the ordering system. Each respective project offers different strategic planning
approaches, funding models and physical resources. Project X specifies an ordering
system whereby a tablet is physically installed into tables, allowing clients to access
the digital menu. Upon selection of meals and beverages, the order is sent to the
kitchen. When the meal preparation is complete, the cook or chef will deliver the
food to the table. Project Y found that tablets may not be a viable strategy due to
wear-and-tear expected from a high frequency of use – this implies a hike in
maintenance cost. In response, it has been suggested that the customer bring their
own device and download a Grilloo app (to be created) to order meals. You are a
graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from the University of
South Africa. You have been hired by Designor to become part of the project
management team who will design and create the smart ordering system for Grilloo.

, You’ve been instructed by the project manager to draft the business case for Project X. The
project manager will review your assertions, inferences, and suggestions.

1.1 Write a brief introduction that outlines the project goal of Project X.

The project goal is to design and install a smart ordering system for patrons that
will simplify the way Grilloo runs its day-to-day operations. The system should also
improve communication between staff and customers.

1.2 The introduction is followed by the Business Objective. Explain the business objective
that underpin the design and implementation of the planned information system.

The ordering technique outlined in Project X involves physically mounting tablets
on tables, so that customers can access a digital menu. After a customer chooses
the meal and beverage, the order is sent to the kitchen. The cook or chef will
prepare and serve directly to the customer’s table. The primary goals are to speed
up the ordering process, shorten wait times, increase order accuracy, and
ultimately improve the dining experience.

1.3 The Business Objective session is followed by a section called Critical Assumptions and
Risks. Describe the critical assumptions and risk of Project X.

• Assumption: Customers find the new system user-friendly and simple to use
Risk: Customers find the system difficult to use and the software not user-
friendly.
• Assumption: Hardware such as the tablets will be resilient not resulting in
high maintenance costs.
Risk: Quick wear-and-tear damage resulting in high maintenance costs
• Assumption: System will simplify the operations of staff.
Risk: Staff face difficulties to the change of the new system hindering their
performance.

1.4 The Critical Assumptions and Risks section is followed by Analysis and Options and
Recommendations. Present three options for addressing the concerns (and opportunities)
you highlight in question 1.3.

• Have a user friendly and simple interface that reduces confusion. This
should include a final confirmation so customers can make sure their order
is correct.
• Make use of protective accessories to reduce wear and tear, for example
screen protectors.
• Have a manual and training workshop so that staff can effectively use the
new system without problems.
