Lethal: something that kills.

Mortality rate: (also called death rate); it is related to the number of people who die with a
disease in a certain amount of time.

Nosocomial: a disease acquired from the hospital environment.

Palliative: something that is directed toward relief of symptoms but does not cure.

Palpation: feeling lightly or pressing firmly on internal organs or structures.

Pandemic: when an epidemic affects an exceptionally large area, even as far as worldwide.

Pathogenesis: a description of how a particular disease progresses.
