Assignment 2
Unit 9: Assignment 2 – Carry out a project initiation
for an IT project
In this assignment, I will be acting as a trainee project manager involving me to
manage my first software development project under ‘Pro123 software development
company’, which requires me to design a pizza ordering application which can
effectively run on a PC that would be transferred to a handheld computer.

Requirements of the Client
My client is the 'Pizza Shed’ pizza restaurant chain, and they want me to provide them
with software that will allow their waiters to collect orders from tables using a handheld
computer. Waiters should be able to record the table number (1 to 25) order and see
the total bill when the order is complete. The Pizza Shed menu options are listed below:
The pizza selections: Cheese and Tomato, Ham and Pineapple, Vegetarian, Meat
Feast and Seafood
The pizza base: ‘Thin and Crispy’ or ‘Traditional’
Extra topping: Cheese, Pepperoni, Onions and Peppers
Drink options: Cola, Lemonade and Fizzy Orange.

I thought for a while and came to the conclusion that the software application needed
to be simple for both waiters and customers to work together to place an order. To
accomplish this, the menu will have a very simple graphical user interface (GUI) with
only two or three solid colours and no patterns or designs.

Scope of the Project
The primary goal for this project is to create a Pizza ordering application software that
would allow waiters at 'Pizza Shed' to take orders at tables. To fulfil the project's scope,
however, I would need to plan and establish tasks that must be completed on time
throughout the project, as well as incorporate the project life cycle.

Constraints
Constraints are any limitations or dangers that must be considered throughout the
project's life cycle. There are three primary types of constraints in a project. The first is
scope, which includes the project's end goal as well as the tasks required to complete
the project. The second is cost, which includes all of the financial resources required to
complete the project on time, as well as the costs for labour, quality control, and other
factors that affect pricing. The third constraint is time, which relates to the project's
completion timetable, which includes deadlines for each step of the project as well as
the projected date the completed product would be delivered.
One of the drawbacks I encountered was my inability to develop a primitive GUI for the
pizza ordering application within the timeframe I wanted using the programme I was
using (Python). Because my programming skills were restricted, I was limited in what I
could code; this also added an extra week to the time spent on the executing stage.
Another constraint associated with the planning and design of the GUI was
understanding how the layout would turn out as well as making it easy for the waiters
to use and traverse. This would have required me to code the available options on Pizza
Shed's menu as well as the final bill of the order. The final constraint I faced was the

amount of time I had to complete the finalised project because time management was
crucial for me due to other assignments and examinations.

Project Management Tools
Project management tools make project planning and administration easier and more
effective. I used three different types of tools to help me along the course of this
project:
Feasibility Study
A feasibility study would assist me in determining whether the project idea is feasible
and will result in a successful outcome. This includes determining whether I have the
requisite resources to execute the project or whether it would be financially
advantageous to take on the task at hand. A feasibility study is part of the project
planning stage and only begins after the proposal has been pitched so that project
managers and stakeholders can weigh the advantages and downsides and so on.

Gantt Chart
Because of its adaptability, the Gantt Chart is regarded as one of the most important
project management tools. It can be used to help with planning, scheduling, and
tracking throughout the project. Gantt Charts can generate a project timetable for
project managers to finish activities within the deadlines they've set; it also helps to
illustrate how far they've come.

Agile Project Methodology
Agile is a method of approaching projects iteratively using short work periods (called
sprints). Sprints normally begin with planning, which is commonly done with task lists
and assists the project team in deciding what work will be completed during the sprint.
The project manager would be responsible for creating the criteria, deciding which work
would be completed and approved, and determining the length of the sprint.

Project Life Cycle
The project life cycle consists of five stages that a project must go through. Initiating
is the process of developing the vision for your project that you want to achieve with
the participation of stakeholders and obtaining their permission. I did this by discussing
what I aim to accomplish with this project and what I must perform, as well as the
client's criteria.
The second step is planning, which is the most significant because it establishes the
project's aim and how you intend to carry out the project. At this point, I came up with
two design alternatives, each with an explanation of how they would work and who the
target audience is for each of them.
The execution stage is where both human and machine resources are used to ensure
that the project is completed on time, within budget, and according to the client's
specifications. This level required me to create my chosen solution and provide a full
explanation of how it works, as well as generate my code and provide evidence.
The monitoring and controlling stage examine the overall status of the project and
performs tests to reduce the product's error rate. I tested my solution to ensure it
worked properly, examined the design, and received feedback. I had enough time
towards the end of the project to make some improvements.

Assignment 2
The final stage, the closing, marks the end of a project. It entails obtaining the consent
of the stakeholders and the client before terminating a project, as well as confirmation
of when the project was delivered (whether on time or not), holding a review meeting
to acknowledge the project's successes and failures to learn from, archiving project
records, and officially relieving the project team of their duties. At this point, I evaluated
how the project went and acknowledged my successes and faults.
