Explain factors that can impact on a positive and negative lifestyle

Lifestyle is the way we all live our daily lives as an individual or in groups. It includes the routines we
keep and choices we make every day. These factors can have a positive or negative affect on our daily
lives depending what we choose and how we manage our time, behaviours and habits.

The NHS is one provider who gives advice online and makes a positive impact through the media and
from medical professionals who all try to encourage the general population to make healthy life style
choices, which can help us all to live a longer happier life with less chance of illness or disease
requiring medication or time in hospital. Information is available using a A to Z directory that can be
used to search for advice on any health issue or question, there is also general advice to educate and
encourage the population and make people aware of good lifestyle choices with recommendations
and guidelines as well as our doctors and nurses who we may see at appointments.

For example, one advertisement from the NHS that is common, and that most people of all ages will
be aware of, is the 5 a day adverts that we see on the TV and on posters or leaflets which have been
sent home from school in children’s book bags, this is done to encourage others to eat more fruit and
veg per day and avoid things like sweets and fizzy drinks and reaches a wider range of the local
population and tries to educate them.

Below is a link to one of the adverts available which is bright and friendly and gives the information
required in a short amount of time which increases the chance of people watching and not being
distracted or becoming bored.

In the long term the NHS hopes to use this type of advert to encourage people to make healthy
choices and will save treatment requirements for serious health problems like heart disease, strokes
and some types of cancer. Evidence shows that there are significant health benefits when we eat at
least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day. This is one example of what recommendation or
guideline the NHS provides.

The World Health Organisation or WHO is a United Nation agency that is responsible for
international public health. The main purpose of the WHO is to promote health and well being, they
set standards for disease control and had a lot of input in the recent covid pandemic. A major goal is
to improve access to health care in developing countries and they also provide recommendations
and guidelines for a healthier lifestyle.

NICE stands for the National Institute of health and Care Excellence and their role is to improve
health and well being by using science and evidence to improve health and social care services. They
provide guidance for the appropriate clinical practise and treatment of people with specific diseases
and guidelines for health technologies including existing or new medicines and procedures for use in
treatment of illness or disease and also guides public sector workers on health promotion and the
avoidance of ill health.
