Salon hygiene

-Waste hair should be swept off after every hair cut & placed in a covered container
-All work services must be regularly cleaned with warm water.
-Clients with any infection should not be treated in a salon.
-Care should be taken when using tools that may pierce the skin e.g scissors, needles or
razors.
Sanitation & Sterilization
Sanitation :It’s the application on measures to promote public health & spreading of
infectious diseases
Sterilization :It’s complete destruction of all living things in an object by use of
electric current.
3 Methods of Sterilization
Physical method
Moist heat:It consist of use of boiling water & steam at 900C
It can be used on towels, gowns & plastic tools.
Dry heat:Most efficient method of sterilizing metal tools e.g auto clave
It’s a closed unit that increases the atmospheric pressure & rises from 1100C – 1310C.
Ultra-violet rays: An electric cabinet sometimes used in beauty salon/parlour.
Chemical method
-The chemical agent used for sanitizing are anti-septic & dis-infectant.
Anti-septic
-It’s a substance which may kill or retard growth of bacteria without killing them e.g
alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, astringents .
Dis-infectant
-It’s a substance which destroys bacteria & is used to sanitize implements e.g surgical
spirit, detto.
Personal hygiene & Appearance
Hands & nails
-Hands should always be clean because dirty hands & long nails will give bacteria that
could affect another person.
Mouth -Bad breathe can offend clients so efficient brushing should help to control bad breathe
& maintain personal hygiene.
