Current career aspirations.
(Identify your current career aspiration and Sport coaching.
explain in detail why you are currently interested
in this career aspiration).
I would like to coach sport, as a coach I want to help players reach their potential and develop as players on and off the pitch, and bond them as a
team using the values associated with the sport. Coaching a team to work together to achieve a common aim at a basic level can create great players
at all levels. That is why coaching is important to me. Sport coaches can influence a young person’s life and help talented sports people to achieve
their ambition. I have been influenced by coaches throughout my life and without sport I don’t think I would be achieving what I am now. I want to
inspire others and encourage people to achieve their maximum potential. I would like to specialise in rugby coaching. To become an effective rugby
coach doesn’t mean I have to be the best player, a love of the sport in general and some knowledge of the game are the main ingredients as well as
sharing my passion with players. I want my role to help players develop and achieve their maximum potential and to mould a group of people into a
team. I will need to understand and be able to explain the rules of the game to beginners and experienced players. Explain the technical aspects of
the game and how players can keep within the rules. I want to teach the basic skills such as passing, catching, kicking and tackling to encourage and
explain tactics and support players in decision making under pressure. Establishing fitness-training regimes and looking after my players physical and
mental wellbeing will also be an important part of my role. Ensuring that my team are responsible and disciplined can help people use these skills in
normal life not just in sport and I want to continue that development for myself. When someone becomes a coach, they find that they can use a
variety of ways to get motivation, commitment and achievements and the best from their team members. I also think as a coach I will use these ways
to improve myself and the people around me. Obviously talking to players and getting to know everyone can make expectations easier to manage,
but a coach should be aware that research has shown that how you make your point using your voice and body language has a much greater impact
than what you say sometimes. Also, players learn best when they are involved in the learning process, so rather than just telling players what to do a
good coach will get much better results by asking players for their input on how to resolve a problem or presenting the problem to them and asking
them to solve it themselves, this encourages problem solving and leadership and teamwork. I would like to be this type of coach. All these things I
have mentioned interest me and I believe I would be a good coach. I have played sport especially rugby for a long time and been coached by lots of
different people from all different backgrounds, some have been excellent coaches who have left a lasting memory others were not so good. I want
to be a firm but fair coach who has excellent knowledge of the sport I am teaching and to encourage others to play sport, not just rugby. I would like
to be able to share my experiences and use what I know to coach and support other players and gain professional qualifications doing something
that I really enjoy.
, The job description for a Sports coach is varied especially when it is specific to a certain sport. In general, a sports coach helps individuals or a group
of people to achieve their full potential in the sport they are participating in. This may be professional sports people, community sport teams or
school groups working closely with them to improve performance. Sport coaches can also work with underrepresented groups of people to
encourage sport activities and participation in sport.
Sport coaches identify needs, plan and implement training programmes and encourage the participants to develop their physical and mental well
being and fitness, they also provide best possible practical conditions to help maximise the sport person or groups performance. Coaches must be
aware of legal and ethical obligations to participants.

Interests My main interests are sport related. I enjoy playing and watching sports particularly rugby and football. I am an energetic person so
(Identify three interests that you have)
playing sports is a good way to release energy. I have good knowledge of the teams and players I follow at local and professional level,
and I take a keen interest in the table of results etc. I am an accomplished rugby player and have represented my club, county, academy
and was selected for the U18 development camp for England and Wales.
Another interest of mine is attending the gym and keeping myself fit. I go to the gym in my own time as well as at college and I like to
keep myself fit. I have a private gym membership and attend at least 3 times a week as well as my rehab sessions during my college
week that I attend due to injury. I am actively trying to overcome my injury from playing rugby and have been learned a lot from the
sessions.
I do also enjoy going to the cinema, socialising with friends and eating out, trying different types of food is always something I look
forward too. I actively cook at home and like to be adventurous with meal ideas. I do plan my meals and try to learn new recipes and
about different ingredients. This is a good way to relax and enjoy the meals I have prepared.
Skills Communication skills – I have good communication skills; I can explain and share ideas and feelings effectively especially in small groups
(also include here skills that you don’t currently
have which are required for your current career
or 1:1. The job description for a Sports coach on the prospect’s website does state excellent communication and interpersonal skills. I
aspiration) feel I need to improve my confidence to achieve excellent skills in communication. For example, if I feel under pressure, I don’t think I
communicate as well as I can when I have more control over the topic and confidence in my knowledge of the subject. I do not have
very much experience with interpersonal skills. I will need to improve this as it will be needed to communicate effectively to different
groups of people from different backgrounds and abilities in sport.
Listening skills - I can listen to people well and make sure they know I am listening to them; this will make them more comfortable with
me. Asking questions and discussing the answers in more detail can also create a better understanding.
Body language - is something I could work on, my size can be intimidating when people first meet me as I am very tall, I need to learn
how to soften my manner and body language using more open and direct gestures this will help me to make my intentions clearer and
