DPT Interview Questions
Why do you want to become a physical therapist? - ✔✔o First off, growing up an athlete and

eventually coaching in my free time as I got older, I have always been interested by movement.

My interest stems from the idea that movement has such a huge impact on our everyday lives. I

entered into my undergrad career as an athletic training major and after a semester, I realized that

ultimately that wasn't what I truly wanted to do. I really liked the idea of it, but I wanted an

occupation that was similar, but broader in scope in terms of settings and disciplines. Eventually,

I felt that maybe physical therapy was what I really wanted to do. And during the first week of

my observation hours, it really gave my affirmation that this is what I truly wanted to do.

Especially sitting in on the evaluations which was my favorite part. I want to learn and have all

the necessary tools to be able to deduce and problem solve to diagnose patients and then lead

them into the direction to reach their goals. I am a very goal-oriented person and this is another

thing that I love about physical therapy. We all have different goals in life, but it's something that

we all are connected by. The desire to achieve our goals and whether a patient's goal is to go

back to sport or being able to get on and off the floor to play with their grandchildren, I want to

be a part of them reaching those goals.

· Why do you want to attend this school? - ✔✔o When I was applying to physical therapy

schools, I did some research and when I came across a video on Walsh's DPT website. I think a

lot of those people in that video made great points as to what is unique about Walsh's DPT

program. I think that the student to professor ratio is important and that the professors have the

opportunity to really get to know you. I think that this small, family like feel is something that I

, am looking for to be successful in DPT school. I am also very interested in the service learning

commitment that Walsh has as a part of their program. I think that community health clinic

program is fantastic for serving underserved community members. This is something that is right

up my alley and something that I would love to participate in to get good clinical experience, but

also to make a difference in communities that need it most.

· What are your goals as a future physical therapist? - ✔✔o Well, obviously right now I want to

get into a great physical therapy school. After my observation hours it got me really interested in

neuro because it is so interesting to me how intertwined the mind and body are. But I want to

learn everything I can in physical therapy school and am aware of the broad scope that the

profession allows, so I think about I finish PT school I would have a better understanding of

what setting would be best for me and allow me to make the biggest impact.

· What are some of your strengths? - ✔✔o I believe that my ability to work well and connect

with people is a strength. I communicate well with patients and other cohorts. I believe that my

ability to be empathetic and a good listener which allows me to connect well with patients and

make a big impact on patients and the physical therapy community. I think that in terms of

healthcare providers, the patient-provider relationship is so important to providing good, quality

care.

· What are some of your weaknesses? - ✔✔o I believe that something that can be a weakness is

that I am a perfectionist and always expect myself to perform at a high level in everything that I

do. It can be hard to accept not meeting those high standards all the time, but I have learned that I
