This research report can be used as an EXAMPLE (be careful for plagiarism; they are very strict and you might be suspended from the whole pre-master), for course 4: research in psychopathology. This report was graded with a 9. Good luck! :)

1. Abstract

Research shows contradictory information regarding the association of body appreciation

with dietary restraint eating behaviour and workout time. Multiple previous studies claim a

positive correlation in contrast to other research stating a negative correlation. Either way

60% of young women has a negative body image, with potential psychopathology as a result.

This cross-sectional study investigates the association between these variables among

96 female Mental Health students at the University of Maastricht. This study aims to answer

the following research question: “Is a higher amount of weekly workout-time and having

dietary restraint eating behaviour associated with a more positive body image among female

Mental Health students?”.

The BAS-2 (body appreciation scale) was used to test the level of body appreciation in

these students. The NVE (Dutch questionnaire for eating behaviour)-subscale: dietary

restraint eating behaviour, was used to determine the level of dietary restraint eating

behaviour among these students. Additionally two questions were asked regarding their

workout routines.

The results showed a negative relation between body appreciation and dietary restraint

eating behaviour, whereas exercising and body appreciation showed no significant

association. Therefore, the last finding is in contrast with previous studies, which suggests

further research to be necessary.
