while using the nursing process to create and implement care to
various populations across the lifespan. Students are introduced to
community didactics and ways to support and promote positive
outcomes to vulnerable populations. The course is built upon the six
competencies of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses
(QSEN). Students will be introduced to patient-centered care,
evidence-based practice, teamwork and collaboration, safety,
quality improvement, and informatics (Hunt, 2012).

3. Research the various health promotion roles of the community
health nurse with a Focus on Healthy People 2020
D. Student Upon completion of this module, the student will be able to:

2. Describe examples of community health nursing and how
community health policies influence the care provided to the
community
E. Content Students will explore the history of community health nursing at the
overview national and state level with a focus of the last 200 years to gain a
foundational knowledge of the community health practice.
Students will examine issues that prevent patients from being active in
their care planning and how the Community Health Nurse can provide
options and resources to encourage the patient to become involved.
Continued learning will include a focus on the regulatory requirements
that guide community health nursing in their state. Students will create a
list of requirements and how they relate to their state.

based learning different case studies that are available through their Evolve resources,
activity an additional online learning tool provided by Elsevier. Students will
complete the case study individually. After finishing, students will be
placed in discussion groups of alike case studies to be utilized as a
debriefing tool. Students will share their new-found knowledge on a
discussion board within the courses’ online curriculum.
