Describe a hypothesis test study that would help your work or conclusions in some way. Describe

what variable would be tested and what would be your guess of the value of that variable. Then

include how the result, if the null were rejected or not, might change your conclusions or actions in

some way.

A hypothesis test study that would help me work out some conclusions in some way is the one

that involves exploring the relationship between particulate matter size on health of the employees.

Therefore, the focus would be on the particulate matter size (independent variable) in the air within a

workplace and the corresponding impact on employee health in terms of sick days or absenteeism due to

reported illnesses or allergies. Hence, the variable that can be tested by considering the mean annual sick

days per employee for different particulate matter sizes. The hypotheses that would be appropriate in this

case include:

H01: There is no statistically significant relationship between particulate matter size and the health

of the employees.

HA1: There is a statistically significant strong relationship between particulate matter size and the

health of the employees.

Meyer, van Witteloostuijn, and Beugelsdijk (2017) recommend performing hypothesis testing

using Excel, and the Pearson correlation coefficient of r, would be used to predict the level of correlation

between the amount of particulate matter and mean annual sick days as strong, weak, moderately strong

or weak negative or positive correlation. The p-value of less than the alpha of 0.05 would mean that the

null hypothesis is rejected (Holmes, Illowsky, & Dean, 2018). This means that the alternative hypothesis

that there is a statistically significant strong relationship between particulate matter size and the health of

the employees would be accepted. Otherwise, the null hypothesis would be accepted.
