Apple has a Hierarchical organization structure which means there are senior
management and executives to general employees. Everyone has their role to comply with therefore senior
management leads their employees accordingly. Tim Cook is at the top as a CEO, followed by his cheap design
officer keep me operating officer vice and president senior vice president. every element of the structure is
related to each other or linked to each other. E.G Internet software and services department ensure they
develop good software through apps or websites where consumers can shop online and monitoring them to
ensure the platforms are running smoothly these helps the retail department to make most sales and revenue
through online shopping channel. Chief financial officer and his department ensures identifying any financial
issues through cash flow forecasting, future financial budget and anticipating future financial needs which also
helps hardware engineering department to have enough finance to produce more hardware's such as iPhone
and enough funds for operating all the elements of day-to-day business. In case of an emergency or reporting
and this structure employees must wait a certain time as reports are passed through senior management step
by step such as employee to the head of the department, then passed on to the supervisor and the final stages
could be shift Manager.
Apple is an international business; they are operating all over the world and generating
profit every single day. As they provide one of the best technologies and smart phones in this technology
demanding world, this makes them stand out from their competitors. They operate internationally to gain
more recognition, more revenue and generate job opportunities which also help the economy both nationally
and internationally.
one possible advantage for apple operating their business internationally is being one of the leading
smartphones and tech provider in international market which leads to generating more revenue.
Apple mainly operates in developed countries simply because of its premium
demands. Developed countries such as UK, USA, Canada and countries in Europe has good employment and
has good lifestyle wealth which influences Apple to bring their product to this market and generate
guaranteed revenue. However, technology giant said it has doubled its business in India and China which are
emerging markets. Due to chip (hardware in a phone) shortage which caused during covid-19 as their main
supplier is in Southeast China. As China and India stock market were rising Apple decided to take advantage of
the stock exchange and currency also knowing they are rapidly growing recently. Possible disadvantages
operating in emerging countries could be unstable growth which means the rapid growth can suddenly stop,
insufficient labor and raw materials, political risk such as changes to the business tax whenever a new
president or prime minister get elected.
British Airways
, Unit 5 International Business (Learning Aim A and B)
British Airways is a British company which is one of the best aviation industries in the world. As it’s
an aviation industry it provides different kind of services and goods compare to Apple. BA offers its services to
average income-based consumers whereas Apple is focused on high income-based consumers. Apple
specializes in technology-based products whereas, BA specializes in public flights all over the world. This is an
international airline group founded in England on 31 March 1974. They specialize in airline flights and cargo
services all over the world. Headquarters in London, UK. Has generated £13,020 Million worth of revenue
during the financial year. The company has over 37,000 employees worldwide.
British Airways has flat organizational structure which means there are limited
management bodies and reduced layers of senior management. Whereas Apple has a Hierarchical
organization structure which is different compared to the BA structure as Apple has various management
department and there are head of every department whereas, BA has less management layers which means
many organizations functional area is covered by one management system. Everyone has their job role and
their responsibility. This type of structure possibly helps to make decisions faster as there is a lack of middle
management therefore everyone can report directly to the senior management or after just a single step. E.g
in a flight crew member report to the on-flight captain.
British Airways have chosen developing country as their chosen market such as
Europe USA North Atlantic. possibly because they are an aviation sector, travels to 70 countries and their aim
are to deliver premium flight services and build great customer trust. However, they also operate some of the
emerging countries like China and Dubai, one possible disadvantage of operating in developed economy would
be having more competitors, in their case they would have Emirates and Qatar Airways who are operating in
same countries, and they could make more money by simply adjusting or reducing their flight costs. Their
chosen market is similar to Apple company to operate in developed market however, they both have different
vision and objective. Operating in developing country also help BA to provide premium tickets to the
consumers and developed country has stable economy which means the rate employment is more than
enough which also leads to more traveling during the seasonal holidays like Summer or Winter. These help the
business to sale more premium ticket to consumers who wants to travel and test the luxury fleet experience.
