AC2.2 Writeup

Blogs

Blogs are regularly updated websites, typically run by an individual or small group, which is written in
an informal or conversational style.

An advantage of using a blog in a campaign is that anyone can set blogs up and they are free of
charge. As well as this, they allow people to express their views and opinions on specific topics.
There are up-to-date information and statistics on blogs that will keep the content fresh and
interesting. Usually, there will be links to social media pages, which allow readers to find out more
and donate to the campaign. Furthermore, they do not just contain writing; they also have video
links, pictures and links to other similar websites that may also be of interest to the reader. Another
strength of using blogs is that blogs are also targeted to nearly all ages, and this is because of the
informal effect and attainability and so they can appeal to all ages. This makes them very effective.

However, a limitation of blogs are that they are extremely hard to keep up to date and they can
become quite time-consuming for the author. Another limitation is that it is becoming an out-of-
date method because many people prefer to use social media as it can be more appealing to a
younger audience. One more limitation is that a blog has to be found in order to find information, so
generally there will be a limited audience of people who are really interested in the cause or the
campaign.

The environmental campaign group Greenpeace uses a blog that has videos, images and articles
included on it, and the majority of posts have been shared via social media platforms, helping to
widen their audience. Some of the things have been shared nearly 1,000 times, which shows that the
blog is effective in raising awareness to the public.

Social Networking/Social Media

Social Networking/Social Media are websites such as TikTok and Twitter, which are created to allow
people to communicate with one another.

A strength of using social networking to promote a campaign is that social networking allows videos,
information and other forms of communication to spread quickly and reach a wide audience. In
2021, over 4.26 billion people were using social media worldwide, a number projected to increase to
almost six billion in 2027 so a campaign on one of these platforms will raise a great deal of
awareness in a short space of time and in a very cost-effective way.

Another strength of social media is its engagement. Social media allows for two-way communication
between the campaign and its followers, which can help to build a sense of community and
engagement with the campaign. This is crucial because this engagement can help to build loyalty and
commitment among supporters, which can be valuable for the success of the campaign. Additionally,
engaging with followers on social media can help to humanize the campaign and make it feel more
approachable, which can make it more appealing to potential supporters.

However there are limitations too. A limitation of using social media to promote a campaign is that
they can be hacked by hackers. Hackers may attempt to compromise the campaign's social media
