This obesity epidemic has shown that children who are overweight or obese have
higher risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia

Implementation of a family based intervention such as exercises and diet has shown
promises to decrease and manage obesity and overweight in children

The purpose of this proposal is to examine the effect of family leisure activities on
individuals with basal metabolic index (BMI) greater than 25

► Obesity and overweight in children has been an ongoing phenomenon and increasingly
getting worse day by day
► Lifestyle and future of children are constantly being influenced by the environment,
family structure, and genetics
► More than 31.1% of children between fourteen to nineteen years of age are either
obese or overweight
► The cost of treating obesity could have a long term effect on the individual patient,
families and the general population.
► Obesity can be prevented by educating children, families, providing a nutritional
support, and lifestyle changes .
