3. Atomic number of an atom is the number of protons in the atom.
4. The charge on a proton is +1, electron is -1 and neutron is 0.
5. An atom is neutral because it has the same number of protons and electrons.
6. Covalent bond is the result of sharing of electrons.
8. Carbon has 4 electrons in its valence shell. It needs 4 more electrons to become
stable. This need for atoms to have a full valence shell is termed octet rule.
9. The attraction that an atom has for its electrons is called electronegativity.
10. Atoms that share electrons equally, have a similar_(similar/different) attractive
force on its electrons and form nonpolar covalent bonds while atoms that share
electrons unequally, have different (similar/different) attractive force on its
electrons and form polar covalent bonds.
11. The attraction of a slight positive end of one atom to the slight negative end of
another results in the hydrogen bond.
12. When an atom loses or gains an electron, it is called an Ion. The attraction
between a cation and an anion results in an Ionic bond.
