EXPLAINING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES TO DETERMINE
ADDITIONAL NEEDS FOR ONE CHILD AND ONE ADULT WITH
DIFFERENT ADDITIONAL NEEDS
My report with an evaluation of the significance of receiving a diagnosis of
additional needs for both Rebecca and Ben and their families within the
society. I will address their physical and health needs, social and
emotional needs, and cognitive and learning needs.
Physical and health needs
It refers to being free from injuries or illness and can cover a range of
wide areas that include a good healthy diet, personal hygiene, and sleep.
Physical and healthy needs are known as vital for the overall well-being of
an individual.
Social and emotional needs
This is a type of need that an individual, this type of need is special
education in which both adults and children show severe difficulties in
managing their emotions and behaviours. This can involve the ability to
manage their feelings and impulses which are needed to grow and learn.
Cognitive and learning needs
This is a form of requiring an understanding of knowledge, it involves
acquiring skills through experience, and study, cognitive and learning
needs rely on each and helps individuals to use their brain more
effectively.
Case study Rebecca Brown
In my case studies, Rebecca Brown who is 8years old was involved in a
traffic accident that has led her to a sustained fractured spin which means
she has no movement below her cervical spine and is paralysed. And
which she is required to adjust to her inability because of this she always
requires one-to-one personal care therefore now goes to a specialist
school where she can have a teaching assistant and carer. Due to her
differences, she has received unpleasant comments from neighbours and
her home doesn’t support her needs as it isn’t wheelchair friendly and is
small. This may bring about Rebecca having the failure to adapt to certain
proactive tasks like working out, strolling, and moving around. This could
imply that Rebecca is unfortunate as exercise ought to be performed

consistently. A x-beam is performed by an x-beam technologist or a
radiologic technologist regularly in an emergency clinic. X-beams are
utilized to analyze bones, joints, and delicate tissues inside the human
body. This will profit Rebecca as she has a broken spine, helping the
technologist to comprehend the seriousness of her incapacity. During the
cycle, Rebecca should be set in a kind of radiation that will go through her
body, taking pictures of her spine. The professionals that could work with
Rebecca may come from a multi-disciplinary team like GP, social workers,
orthopedic surgeons, and occupational therapists. The symptomatic
methodology used to decide Rebecca's scholarly handicap could be her
making them read age tried. This will profit her as it will guarantee
whether she has the ability of an 8-year-old young lady. Rebecca may
likewise need to take a knowledge test, which is a mental test that is
intended to quantify an assortment of mental capacities, for example,
thinking, perception and judgment. This will help her in getting the right
help, furthermore, help she needs. Whenever they have distinguished on
the off chance that she has a dysfunctional behaviour, fitting mental
assistance can be given, like a drug, treatment, and encouraging group of
people. In Rebecca’s case, her injuries caused her to have a fractured
spine meaning she has no movement below her cervical spine, because of
this she would have been given physical examinations and radio-graphical
screenings to determine what injuries she had and the severity of it. With
Rebecca having a fractured spine it means she will need a lot of one-to-
one help with personal care which is why she was placed in a school for
additional needs so that she can get the appropriate help and support she
needs which would be a teaching assistant and carer which she has stated
in the case study. It is important to help Rebecca be independent where
she can as this can help her to increase her mobility and ability to do
things for herself.

How fractured spine diagnosed

Firstly the patient’s breathing is assessed as this can show signs of
damage to the diaphragm, secondly a physical exam of the spine will be
performed, during these processes the spine is kept in a neck or back
brace to protect any injuries until the diagnostics are completed (10).
There are scans that can be done to confirm if a patient has any damage
such as MRI, CT scans, and X-Rays.

X-rays are radiation called electromagnetic waves which are also used to
create an image, these are typically used to detect broken bones. They
can detect bone fractures and breaks, tooth problems, non-cancerous and
cancerous bone tumours, lung problems, such as lung cancer, dysphagia,
and heart problem.

CT (computed tomography) is a process that uses X-rays and the use
of a computer to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. CT
scans are different from MRI scans because they use radiation. They can

be used to diagnose conditions including damage to bones, injuries to
internal organs, problems with blood flow, stroke, and cancer

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a process that uses strong
magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the inside of
the body. It can almost examine any part of the body, including the brain
and spinal cord, bones and joints, breasts, heart and blood vessels,
internal organs, such as the liver and womb or prostate gland.

Case study Ben Grace
Ben is 52years and has down’s syndrome and type 2 diabetes, and this
has been affecting mentally, emotionally, and socially. Ben's issues have
brought about him being not able to adapt to certain day-by-day
exercises, which means he is dependent on individuals.
Type 2 diabetes
It is a condition that is caused by the level of glucose in our bloodstream
and a serious condition where the insulin your pancreas makes can’t work
properly, or your pancreas can’t make enough insulin. It is diagnosed with
a blood or urine test but is often accidentally diagnosed as it shows up
when being tested for other problems. Once the results come back, the
doctor will put the patient on relevant medication and discuss what it is
and the importance of lifestyle choices. And it is important for patients to
often monitor their sugar intake after a diagnosis. The most common
causes of developing this are being overweight and inactive, however, it
can also be genetic. A common symptom of type 2 diabetes includes
feeling thirsty all the time, blurred vision, itching around your penis or
vagina, repeatedly getting thrush, peeing more than usual, particularly at
night, and cuts or wounds taking longer to heal.
This may bring about diabetics regularly ignoring their treatment, which
means they will become unhealthier throughout a specific timeframe.
Inwardly, Ben may feel a feeling of pressure while dealing with his
diabetes and his fluctuating glucose levels may add to mindset swings.
This may make Ben miserable or even very peevish. The demonstrative
methodology used to decide if Ben has Type 2 diabetes comprises of him
being given a Glycated haemoglobin (A1C) test. This blood test will
demonstrate Ben's normal glucose levels for as far back as a few months.
It will gauge the level of his glucose connected to haemoglobin and the
oxygen conveying protein in red platelets. At the point when this test was
given to Ben, his A1C level more likely than not been 6.5% or higher on
two separate tests, causing the specialists to analyse him with Type 2
diabetes. As stated in the case study, Ben has been refusing the special
diet and eating sweets, which indicates he has been eating unhealthy for
a while which may have been the cause of the development as it is harder
for Ben to be more active due to struggles, he has and has had in the
past. To keep himself healthy he needs to stick to the diet and get plenty
