August 2, 2022 Introduction Case Study
Susan is a college student who feels that her studies have gotten in the way of her social life. She was invited to a party by one of her classmates. Susan is excited to get out again and hang out with friends, just hoping she has an enjoyable time. After she arrives at the party, Mark and his friend are speaking about her, she soon finds out that Mark likes her more than a friendly way. Once she is home she finds a friend request from Mark on Facebook, as she is scrolling through, she starts to get notifications that they are in a relationship, and it has been made public.
Susan needs to find a way how to tell Mark that she is not interested in him without hurting his feelings, even though he invited her to the party and was nice to her. She thinks that it
would be better for them not to be friends on Facebook, so she does not give him the wrong impression. Susan’s case will show us unrequited love theory, which means that the love is one sided. Sometimes people are unaware of someone else’s feeling when they have these strong feelings about someone, or they may not be as interested in the person and reject that person. You can love someone, but they do not have to love you back (Baumeister & Bushman, 2020).
