are morning ring, art, music ring, movement activities, baking, free play inside the classroom
(playing with books, construction games, fantasy games and puzzles), free play outside on the
jungle gym, in the sandpit, bike riding, and sensory tables. The people involved are the
teachers and assistant teachers. Specialists who do hearing and eye testing, are brought in to
do screening twice a year.
3) What are the reasons for testing in this context? (Refer to Chapter 15 in the textbook
if you are unsure of what is required here.) Assessments are done twice a year, the results
of which form the basis of a report which is given to the parents. A copy of the reports are
also kept in each child’s file so that their next teacher the following year can see where the
child’s strengths and weaknesses lie, and build on that. The reason for testing in this context
is to ascertain whether the children are able to complete tasks and display skills which are
appropriate for their age. This is necessary because if it is discovered that they are
developmentally delayed in any area then they need intervention as soon as possible to help
them improve. It is also necessary to assess the children to see if they are ready to move on to
