Topic: The challenges that student with disabilities experienced during the covid19
pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the teaching and learning scenario in schools and
colleges. The shift from traditional face-to-face mode to online platforms has brought many
challenges.
This “new norm” of pedagogy has also presented challenges to students with disabilities in
colleges around the world. Especially if you use the online platform for learning.
Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to examine the challenges faced by students with
disabilities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Everyone has felt the effects of the coronavirus since the World Health Organization
declared it a global pandemic in January 2020. Students with disabilities are severely
affected. Many students with disabilities have one behaviour in common.
They show less incentive to learn, are less capable of learning, require tasks to be broken
down into smaller parts, find it difficult to simplify them, and lack analytical skills and
objectivity (Cavanaugh et al., 2009).
People with disabilities certainly apply to all the general challenges that come with the
pandemic, but there are additional barriers. The first is communication: Obtaining
information can be more difficult for people with visual, hearing, and even cognitive
disabilities because popular news sources may not be accessible, especially when
information is changing rapidly. I'm blind and can attest to that. Keeping us all informed is
key in the public health response to COVID-19, but information isn't always accessible to the
disability community, so we're staying on the side-lines.
While there is a lot of pressure and certainly a lot of demand to deal with the rise in COVID-
19, it is still crucial to ensure the disability community is taken into account. This is truly a
remarkable and challenging time for our healthcare system, but the needs of the disability
community cannot go unnoticed. The issues of pre-pandemic care only become more
pressing in times of crisis because people with disabilities have often been left out of the
