Introduction

We humans generally understand art and all of its components in very specific and
ever-changing ways. One person may look at a depiction of sunset and believe that
the oranges and reds are bringing forth a fire and a horrific type of emission.
Another choice is to take a gander at a tantamount picture and ponder the quiet and
enthusiastic suggestions. This shows us ourselves and the recollections we have in
our sub-conscience. A model, as per Oxford Dictionary (n.d.), is the art of creating
three-dimensional delegate or distinctive constructions. Carving stone or wood, or
protruding metal or mortar, in particular. Models help in passing on the authentic
setting of how people thought and coordinated their demonstrations. This kind of
communication was more important in ancient times, as opposed to now, when we
have the benefit of writing books, online diaries, and much more that is readily
available. This essay will compare and contrast two ancient figures: the Egyptian
sculptures of Memi and Sabu and the Neo-Sumerian sculpture of Gudea.

Body

"Evokes the intimacy of Memi and his companion, Sabu, yet she is put somewhat
aside by her oblique glance," says the statue of Memi and Sabu (The Royal
Acquaintances Memi and Sabu, n.d).
The Egyptian sculpture is from the Old Kingdom, Dynasty 4, which lasted from 2575
to 2465 B.C. It is a limestone sculpture that depicts a non-royal couple; nonetheless,
the etching on the sculpture suggests that they were imperial associates. The
couple's status is further emphasized by the fact that they are dressed casually and
are not standing or sitting in any position of prominence, as in Gudea's sculpture
(The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2013).

Moreover, Memi and Sabu's models imply a couple that is dependent on different
correlation figures. The possibility that they are a couple is supported by Memi's
(significant other) tender hug of Sabu (spouse). This display of togetherness most
likely explains why Memi prefers to walk with his feet together rather than the
macho stepping he does with his left leg. Furthermore, Memi is roughly a head
higher than Sabu, and her outfit is slightly more jutted than Sabu's. This sculpture
was veiled in a shrouded room with non-royal deceased so that the soul may benefit
from the food and endowments delivered to them.

The Gudea statue, on the other hand, is a Neo-Sumerian sculpture that was created
between 2150 and 2100 B.C. Unlike the sculptures of Memi and Sabu, which
appealed to non-royals, Gudea's sculpture spoke to one of the Neo-Sumerian
culture's legends, Gudea of Lagash (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, n.d). He was
seen by the populace as a go-between between themselves and God. Gudea is
depicted in the seated position of a monarch in front of his subjects, his hands
collapsed in the traditional greeting and prayer gesture (Mesopotamia,n.d).
His feet are not touching the earth, indicating a guy of immense power and respect.
