Chemical digestion
Salivary amylase- secreted by salivary glands- initiates
breakdown of carbohydrates into monosaccharides which
are absorbable in the bloodstream. Process takes place in
mouth.
Lingual lipase-secreted by lingual glands-initiates breakdown
of fats/lipids/dietary triglycerides into fatty acids and
diglycerides in the stomach.
