model developed by Johns Hopkins, select a research result reported in a journal article that supports

practice setting. Determine fit, feasibility, and appropriateness of the result for your practice setting.
Using Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA), outline an action plan. Identify the resources (physical, personal,
technology) needed to implement your action plan. Determine the criteria that you would use to
determine whether the implementation of your project was successful. Identify one future research
study that would be useful in extending knowledge of your selected project result.

The John Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model is usefulness in

multiple settings. PET relates to process of moving from Practice question to Evidence to

Translation using different phases. First is the practice question and includes identifying

stakeholders and forming a team needed to make to make the process a success. The

development PICOT or PICo id developed in this phase as well. The second or evidence

phase involves research for the best data available to support the PICO question and

recommendation for change is determined. The last phase is the translation phase where the

team recognizes if the change in practice is feasible, appropriate, and a good fit. After the

process has progressed to this point, one of the following decisions are determined: Can a

there be recommended change, is additional investigation needed, or does the benefit

outweigh the risks.

The PICO question for my project is: Can the quality of care for the inpatient veteran

population be improved by providing education to new and current VA nurses on the

behaviors that make caring for them challenging. (P) New and current VA Nurses, (I)

and understanding as well as improve nurse-veteran patient communication and relationship

in order to provide a better quality of care. The qualitative approach is used for this question

because qualitative research allows the study of interactions and behaviors and can identify

why behaviors exist and how they are interpreted under certain circumstances (McCusker &

Gunaydin, 2015).

Research results from a journal article that supports this PICO question is a research

study published in December 2015 found at https://doi.org/10.2147/AMEP.S89479. This

study focused on preparing civilian nurses to care for the veteran population. Hospital

presentations and seminars on veteran information was provided. Learning curriculums and

faculty development opportunities were put into place to include information about

experiences and issues unique to veterans. Nursing programs were also revised to include this

data. The results of this study supported the fact that introducing the issues that are unique to

caring for veterans into curricula did have a positive impact on providing better care and

more positive outcomes. The conclusion was that when additional programs that focused on

educating nurses about veteran-specific issues did improve care for diverse veteran

populations (Olenick, Flowers and Diaz, 2015). Another qualitative study that can be useful

to support the PICO found at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pec.2014.03.016 involved interviewing

17 male and 14 female Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to collect information on the transition

experiences of veterans’ transition experience from military to civilian life aimed at

providing educational data for providers that promoted positive ways to communicate with

these veterans to provide a better quality of care and assist with readjustment to civilian life.
