1. Depressieve episode Eén of meer episoden van depressie zonder
geschiedenis van manische of hypomane episoden die niet door een middel
zijn opgewekt. Sommige mensen hebben één depressieve episode, gevolgd
door een terugkeer naar het gewone functioneren. Bij de meeste mensen met
een depressieve episode komen de depressies echter steeds terug,
afgewisseld met perioden van normaal of licht gestoord functioneren.
2. Dysthyme stoornis Een patroon van matige depressie die langere tijd
aanhoudt, bij volwassenen meestal vele jaren.
3. Premenstruele stemmingsstoornis Een diagnostische categorie in de
DSM-5. De categorie is zeer omstreden omdat ze vrouwen met serieuze
premenstruele klachten stigmatiseert door ze een psychische stoornis toe te
dichten.
Stemmingswisselingsstoornissen BIPOLAIR
Zowel episoden van depressie als euforie of (hypo)manie.
1. Bipolaire stoornis Perioden van wisselingen van de stemming, de energie
en het activiteitsniveau tussen manie en depressie, soms met tussenliggende
perioden waarin de stemming normaal is; twee algemene subtypes, bipolaire-
I-stoornis (één of meer manische episodes) en bipolaire-II-stoornis
(depressieve periode en hypomanische periode, maar geen volledig
manische periode).
2. Cyclothyme stemming Een chronische stemmingsstoornis met talrijke
hypomane episoden (episoden met minder ernstige manische kenmerken dan
manische episoden) en talrijke episoden van depressieve stemming of verlies
van belangstelling of plezier in activiteiten, maar niet zo ernstig dat deze
voldoen aan de criteria van een depressieve episode.
MANIE toestand van ongewone euforie, energie en activiteit.
HYPOMANIE een relatief lichte toestand van manie.
DYSTHEMIE een licht, maar chronisch type depressieve aandoening. (Duurt meestal
meerdere jaren).
