Mr. Hoya’s level of hypertension requires two medications from two different drug classes. However, if
he were to have stage 1, the guideline states he would only need one medication. As with all patients
suffering from hypertension it is suggested lifestyle changes be made such as; healthier diet, weight loss
and exercise. Lastly, the committee published target range blood pressure numbers, this means
medications should be adjusted to meet those target ranges.

suffering from that condition, or likely to suffer from that condition. Also knowing if there are any
additional health elements that need to be addressed such as urinary symptoms, illnesses or anything
significant that might be causing his high blood pressure, or might need addressing. It is essential to
know if he has been diagnosed prior as this gives insight on patient compliance, and patient
understanding. Discussing his sleep habits, and how he feels after sleep provide evidence that his
fatigue and tiredness is not stemming from lack of rest, but rather lack of restful sleep. Knowing he is
not on drugs and does not drink, but snores and wakes frequent indicate his fatigue is not caused from
not going to bed early enough, or doing drugs, but rather he is unable to breathe adequately throughout
the entire night, which therefore impacts his body. The Mayo Clinic (2019) reports “sudden drops in
blood oxygen levels that occur during sleep apnea increase blood pressure and strain the cardiovascular
system. Having obstructive sleep apnea increases your risk of high blood pressure”. Knowing the sleep
apnea and hypertension could be related provides further evidence that the patient is likely suffering
