The uneven impacts of the COVID- 19 pandemic have brought healthcare disparities into
sharper focus within the public and the media. According to Burton et al. (2020), the unequal
COVID-19 pandemic deaths, which have exposed the health disparity in our nation, have shown
how minority communities continue to lack affordable and adequate medical care. Rajgopal et al.
(2021) built on this to assert despite the recent focus, these issues have been documented for
years and showcase enduring structural and systemic inequities based on discrimination and
racism in American society. As a result, over the years, the government has proposed several
policies such as the Social Security Amendments of 1965, Health Maintenance Organization Act
of 1973, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985, Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act of 1996, and Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.
However, health disparities continue to endure, with people in rural areas dying due to a lack of
better healthcare access (Burton et al., 2020). Fortunately, technological advancements such as
health chatbots have presented a breakthrough in recent years to help address these
shortcomings. With technology accessibility, diagnosis and treatment can be done efficiently in
real-time. Therefore, while there are many policies to lower the impact of poverty on
preventative care, the use of healthcare chatbots is likely to provide improved health outcomes
by minimizing time spent commuting to the doctor's office, reducing unnecessary treatments and
tests, and offering easy access to the doctor.
