conceptualized by Ng and Feldman (2014).
The person’s career paths are rarely steady and unexciting. They frequently meet
stumbling blocks and barriers during the course of their career. Career hurdles (i.e. the
hindrance the persons face in the achievement of their career goals) perhaps arise
internally (for example, from the dispositional characteristic of the person) or externally
(for example, from the habitat circumstances, such as a low support for career furtherance
from family members or the workplace). Career hurdles are classified in terms of trait-like
hurdles, background-related hurdles, motivational hurdles, social network hurdles, skill-
related hurdles and organizational & job hurdles.
Background-related hurdles apply to components in a person’s background that can
construct a starter disadvantage or advantage in setting in motion a career. For instance,
people from low socioeconomic levels and economically disenfranchised perhaps have
not many opportunities for high-quality education, which perhaps restricts their career
choices. Also people with big families perhaps need to be greatly committed to their life
distinctive life than to their careers/occupation
Trait-like hurdles incorporates personality components such as low agreeableness, low
emotional stability and low openness to change & new experiences, which perhaps
compel the person that are in the sort of career choices and jobs they tend to think about.
The low core self-evaluation such as low self-efficacy, low self-esteem and uncertain
career identity, perhaps caused the person to put down lower- resource- obtaining
objectives and to regard their careers as less triumphant.
