Unit 19- pitching for a new business

Introduction

,My name is........ and I have been studying BTEC national diploma in business and have decided to
put my knowledge and understanding in practise. This will be implemented by understanding my
skills I have learnt by becoming my own boss and setting up my business. For me, the first step is to
show possible investors that I have completely examined potential concepts for a micro-business
start-up and that I am ready to proceed. I will create an evaluation report that will indicate to
potential investors that I have extensively researched the potential concepts for a new micro-
business start-up and internal and external aspects linked with a selected micro-business start-up.
Before I write my report, I will carry out research into the potential opportunities ideas to start up
my business.

P1: describe the potential business opportunities for a micro-business start-up

From my brainstorm I have learnt that within business ideas, they are categorised into different
types such as Non-technical, ideas from another environment, serendipity, and purposeful
development. From analysing my brainstorm ideas, I have noticed that most of my ideas are Non-
technical, meaning that they are already existing ideas. From this I have decided to change my
business ideas so they more diverse. An example of this is when I had a business idea of running a
bakery. This is a nontechnical idea as it is an idea that is already existing. In order to change it I
turned the baker into a French bakery, selling all French deserts and cuisines.

From analysing my matrix structure, It has allowed me to identify the strongest business ideas I have
come up with, this is shown as the ideas have the highest score. acknowledging the businesses with
the highest score, these being window cleaner, hairdresser and Thai restaurants, it allows me to
eliminate the remaining business ideas. These 3 ideas will be my initial ideas to do my research on
and perhaps pursue.

Window cleaner

The first business I will be looking to start-up is a window cleaner as this one of the top 3 on my
matrix structure. A window cleaner is in the tertiary sector as they provide a service to the
customers by cleaning their windows. This idea will involve me going to clients houses or even
cleaning the windows of other big companies.

My idea will involve of the selling of both products and services, cleaning my client’s windows as well
as providing them with the necessary cleaning products to suit their needs. I will not need to
manufacture any of my products as I will be selling already existing products to my consumers. I will
buy them in bulk for a cheaper price where I can sell them for added value allowing me to generate
a profit. I will source my equipment and products at large online stores such as eBay fore example,
this is because it is more efficient for me to buy them in bulk online instead of going to a store. eBay
will allow me to monitor my spending and track my parcels, giving me the ability to prepare for
delivery. eBay also has next day delivery features which is id3eal for me as I will need the products
quickly to keep the business running. I will also use my local supermarket, Asda, for example as it is
convenient for me to purchase the products I need. By having more than one supplier is re-ensures
me that I will have enough products to sell them to customers and thus establishing a good company
reputation. The channels I will use to get my products and services to the market will be knocking on
customers doors to promote the products in which I will be selling. This will be followed by the
selling of the service of cleaning the client’s windows for them at a suitable price and standard.

, My business will consist of 4 employees within the company, allowing me to run my micro business
quickly and efficiently. One of my employees will have the responsibility of answering calls from
clients as well as booking appointments for the rest of the employees to do the job. I will be
responsible for the financial areas of the business, recording financial transactions and ensuring that
the company can afford the spending of materials. Furthermore, another member of the company
will be in charge of the promotion of the company, making sure they provide eye catching and
convincing advertisements to engage customers.

Hairdresser

The second business I will be looking to start up is a hairdresser, this is because it had the highest
score in my matrix structure, indicating it is one of the most appropriate ideas. The hairdressing
business will be in the tertiary sector I will be providing a service, cutting hair, as well as selling hair
products to customers. This idea is a nontechnical idea as it is an already existing business idea.

It will involve me cutting the hair of the clients at a high-quality standard at their own house, making
me a mobile hairdresser. This idea will be affective as I will be cutting the hair of the clients in the
comfort of their own home. I will also be selling hair products to the customers I provide a service to,
this will be more convenient as they won't have to go to the store for their hair products. This will
therefore, increase sales and help to establish a good company reputation. I will source my supplies
from the local hair salon as they will be reliable and as its local, I can quickly buy products if I ran out
for example. In addition, I will buy the hair products on eBay as this gives me the ability to buy in
bulk, making the products cheaper for me. This then will increase the revenue generated when I sell
the products to my clients. Furthermore, will also purchase some supplies off of amazon, this is
because it is vital that I have more than one trusted supplier as I may not be able to get the right
amount, I am looking for in one store. The channels I will be using to get my products and services to
the market will be knocking on people's doors to promote the service I will be selling. This is an
effective way to promote a hairdressing business in 2020 due to the corona virus pandemic that is
currently on going. People are unable to get a haircut as the salons are fully booked most of the
time, which allows me to penetrate the gap in the market and gain customers.

My micro business will consist of 3 other employees, allowing me to run the company in the most
effective way possible. One of my employees will be responsible for answering the phone and
booking the appointments for the clients. I will have another employee who handles the financial
areas of the business, making sure we are making enough revenue and calculating our profit
margins. Me and the last employee will be cutting the hair of the clients, taking different
appointments and going to different houses. This way, we can get multiple haircuts in a single day
and will be faster in retaining customers.

Thai Restaurant

The last business idea I will be looking to start up is the running of a restaurant, this is because it was
one of the top three with the highest score in my matrix structure. The restaurant will be a tertiary
