There have been concerns that patient-centered care, which strongly focuses on

populations. However, proponents of evidence-based medicine now accept that a good
outcome must be defined in terms of what is meaningful and valuable to the individual patient.
Patient- centered care, as well as evidence-based medicine, considers both the art of
generalizations and the science of particulars. (Epstein & Street, 2011). Quality improvement of
healthcare processes and outcomes is the goal of knowledge transformation. While promoting
quality improvement, it is necessary to identify errors and hazards in care; understand and
implement basic safety design principles, such as standardization and simplification; continually
understand and measure quality of care in terms of structure, process, and outcomes in relation
to patient and community needs; and design and test interventions to change processes and
systems of care, with the objective of improving quality. I have learned to always practice in line
with the best available evidence and to make sure that any information or advice given is
evidence-based, including information relating to using any healthcare products or services
(Waren, 2015). I have learned to utilize evidence-based practice specifically in the clinical
setting. I have learned how Advanced Practice Nursing utilizes this best practice.
