What would be a reasonable evaluation strategy for patient education?
Patient education is an important concept in medicine because the doctors and other healthcare
providers can offer important information and health tips to patients and their care takers on
better and healthier living. It is always advisable that patients have the necessary information that
could be useful during the recovery process…..
, PATIENT EDUCATION EVALUATION 2
Many patients access health care education but the doctors and other health care providers lack
evaluation techniques that could determine the success of this education to patients. There are
various techniques that could be used as assessment tools for the success or impact of health care
education in the society. The best strategy is to check for change in patients' behavior when
observing health tips and the frequency of patients visiting health care centers to enquire about
their health even when they are not ill. The following are some of the evaluation tools that can be
used in this strategy.
One of the techniques in this strategy is healthy eating, (Freda, 2002. If most patients are
changing the eating habits then this is an indication that patient education is working. Patients
change in diet means that there is an improvement that can be credited to patient education.
Another important technique is frequent exercises in patients which allow proper flow of blood
in the patients' bodies. Patients state that the reason behind unhealthy lifestyles is the fact that
they lack the necessary information that could help them observe and maintain healthy lifestyles
through better meals and frequent exercises. When patients are exercising and taking strict
measures to see that their bodies are in better shapes, then this is an important tool that proves
that patient education is bringing changes in the society, (Freda, 2002.
Another important technique that can be used is checking for frequent visits and
comparing the number of visits by patients to the number in the previous periods, (Freda, 2002).
A higher number of patients flowing in to enquire about their health conditions prove that health
education is working and many people are benefiting. What can be learnt from this change is that
many people are aware of the need to observe better and healthier lifestyles. This credit should
go to patient education and that’s why this is one of the most effective evaluation techniques.
