Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with gradual cognitive and
functional deficits and changes in behavior associated with amyloid and tau accumulation and
depositions in the brain and considered the sixth most common cause of death (Apostolova,
2016). There has been substantial progress in genetics, neuroimaging, medical diagnostics, and
AD staging in recent years, and the ability to visualize amyloid pathology in the living human
brain is one of the most recent advances of AD (Apostolova, 2016). The recently revised
diagnostic criteria for AD dementia include the use of biomarkers as a guide for the underlying
pathology as supportive evidence, according to Apostolova (2016). Guidelines have been
developed to ensure the responsible use of amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) and to
actively explore the clinical and financial effects of amyloid PET imaging (Apostolova, 2016).
Age is an associated increased risk factor, especially in those 65 and older, incidences of
traumatic brain injuries, cardiovascular risk factors, and one or more apolipoprotein gene E4
alleles (APOE4) which may be inherited, although very rare with an increased probability of
development of the disease (Hategan & Xiong, 2018). Also, acetylcholine, which is an essential
