, Our core values are the underlying beliefs that define our character.
Honesty, integrity, dependability and perseverance are the core values that
define my belief system. Honesty is the foundation of my core values
because all others build upon honesty. To be honest, is to tell the truth,
even if it is not the easiest solution. Being honest with oneself is as
important as being honest with others, because it can encompass
realizations of character flaws that open us to our own vulnerabilities.
Integrity is similar to honesty in many aspects as it involves being honest,
but carries ethical convictions of wanting to ensure your actions are above
reproach. Integrity is also a moral characteristic as I feel it also defines your
honor and the code of conduct to which we hold ourselves and our actions.
Dependability is to be trustworthy, and to have others know they can rely on
you; that you will always follow through and complete the task, and honor
your promises. To persevere is to complete an undertaking despite the
difficulties and resistance to achieving success. As a medic in the military,
one’s
integrity was valued above any other aspect of your character. As a mom, I
instilled honesty above all other character traits in my child. As an
employee, dependability has created a reputation that is valued. And, as a
cancer survivor, perseverance served me well when I did not want to move
on days when every bone in my body hurt. These core values are the
building blocks of what makes me accomplish work, and life in general. They
drive my daily decisions and actions and allow me the ability to feel good
about myself.
