Explain one reason why you might experience long response times in getting a web page from a
server in your own city? How would you check the Internet connection speed from your
computer?
Hello Professor and Class,
There can be various reasons why an indvidual may experience long response times in getting a
web page from server in his or her own city. According to Computer Hope (2020), those reasons
may include some or all of the following: Slow Internet connection, Site or download,
Downloading while browsing, Problew with browser, Server if website location, and Amount of
visitors on a site (to name a few).
While experiencing said issues, there are also some helpful and resourceful tips that may utilized
as well, to improve the Internet connection speed. One of the first suggestions for speeding up
the Internet connection is, switching to a broadband, oppose to a dial-up or modem. Cable is
also known to be much faster than DSL. If more than one person is utilizing the internet in the
home, try to coordinate times, where everyone is not trying to download simultaneously.
Another tip that may be used, is opting to use an alternative browser. Try connecting another
device to your Internet, this will help you determine if it is actually your Internet or your
computer with an issue.
There are several ways an individual may check the Internect connection speed from his or her
computer. Eric Griffith (2020), highly recommends a person use the PCMag Speed Test or the
famed Ookla Speedtest. These tests are used to determine the Fastest ISPs in America and
Candad; as well as measure the time it takes for data to transfer between the user's computer and
a remote server by way of the local ISP connection (2020). Plus, the PCMag Speed Test can be
used on a mobile device at any time.
