Theory Course Description (NURS 370, 4 credits)
This theory course builds on pre-requisite applied assessment and foundation courses to develop
capabilities for critical analysis and action (synthesis and application of evidence-based
knowledge) to plan, coordinate, and evaluate priorities of comprehensive care for adults of all
ages with acute and chronic health care diseases and disorders.
The course highlights the role and scope of registered nurse practice and the nursing process to
develop capacities for advanced reasoning, critical decision making, rapid recognition and
response, and effective interpersonal communication and collaboration to design and manage
care that minimizes the potential for patient risk, harm, and error, enhances desired care
outcomes, and manages health care costs. The course provides foundational knowledge for
thinking and reasoning in performance of psychomotor skills in clinical settings.
Practicum Course Description (NURS 378, 4 credits)
The clinical practicum emphasizes cognitive and psychomotor skill development to plan,
implement, and evaluate care outcomes for adults of all ages receiving care in acute settings.
Emphasis is placed on development of clinical judgment in symptom and disease assessment
and management, effective skills of interpersonal communication, competencies for
, information management systems technologies, and collaborative clinical practice to manage
care that is population-sensitive and patient-centered, outcomes-focused, and minimizes risk,
harm, and error.
Pre-requisites and Other Restrictions
