The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, is a book by Sherman Alexie about a

boy that lives on a reserve but wants to leave and go into the city and be rich and famous. It's a

book that has a lot of different elements in it. It has a lot of humor in it. This humor is used for

lots of different things when talking about Junior. There are different types of comic elements in

this story and funny events around the book.

This story doesn't seem like one that would have humor in it, but it's filled with it. Junior

is a teenager that has lots of dreams and ambition and wants to become rich and famous. He

does all of this to get out of his current home on the reservation and go out into the world and

more into cities. Just from reading this you would think it's a story layout that's very common, a

protagonist trying to achieve a goal but a sad version of this. While this book is sad it also is

almost masked by the humor. Dark parts of it are talked about using humor to lighten the mood.

This is a book with a lot of sad things but bits of joy make it happier.

Juniors friendships show humor and happiness in it, but also at the same time it darkens

the mood with some interactions he has. This book deals with a lot of bad topics, such as

bullying. Alcoholism, especially in Junior's dad and all the families on the reservation. Also

things like abuse, like when Rowdy’s dad gets drunk he’ll beat Rowdy and get very violent to
