NR 305 HA Week 6 Graded Discussion
Asssessment of the Abdomen and Genitourinary System

1) Since Amira speaks another language, I would first get a Syrian translator to make sure
we do not miss any important details. Some subjective questions would include asking
her about her abdominal pain, history of abdominal surgeries, nausea or vomiting,
dysphagia, bowel habits, medications, appetite, food intolerance and nutritional
assessment. And for her GU system, I would ask her about acute pelvic pain, menstrual
history like last cycle, obstetric history, past GYN history, talk about possible early
menopause, sexual activity, contraceptive use, urinary symptoms, possible STI exposure,
or VGI symptoms. Focusing on GI & GU systems, but also including neuro evaluation
due to excessive blood loss and lack of eating. When assessing pain, make sure she has
no signs of pelvic inflammatory disease, appendicitis, ruptured ovarian cysts, twisting of
the ovaries, fibroids or polyps (Jarvis, 2016, pg. 741). With the minimal information
given, I would assume miscarriage. Focusing on her GU symptoms and ask about birth
control, last normal menses, is she is sexually active, history of pregnancy or
miscarriages in the past. Lastly, I would do a pregnancy urine test and blood test. The
rationale for this is ruling out miscarriage. And if so, doing an ultrasound to make sure
there is no more products of conception (POC) left in the uterus. This can cause severe
pelvic pain because the body is trying to pass the pregnancy
