ECE 624: Advanced Topics in Child Development Learning and Developmentally Appropriate


The regional director encouraged the center to apply for a grant to furnish our toddler

classroom to stimulate physical activity and creativity during the monthly administrator meeting.

ABC Childcare Center was notified they received a $5000 grant for materials purchased at

Kaplan. The grant will allow the classroom to be fully furnished and stimulate children's interest

and curiosity while enhancing physical development.

The classroom is a multi-age classroom supporting young toddlers, 18 months-2-year-olds.

The classroom can be reconfigured to grow with the children as they age up to the next level and

accommodate the program's needs. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ratio allows eight children

and two staff until the facility is back at regular operations allowing families back inside the

program. The goal and mission of the facility are to provide affordable and quality childcare that

will recognize the challenges of working families. The program will offer quality childcare that

supports the family by reducing the conflict between mission readiness and parental

responsibility and will follow National Association for the Education of Young Children

(NAEYC) standards. The children's needs will be met through individualized observations and

ensure age-appropriate materials are sufficient in the classroom to develop their interest and

learning needs are met.

Now that the program has received notification the grant proposal has been approved and

granted for the amount of $5000; the director has reached out to Kaplan to create a classroom

that will encourage learning, improve engagement, and support positive behavior in the

classrooms. The classroom will explore the toddlers in an organized environment that will

engage in meaningful learning with interest centers. Once you enter the classroom, there is

, enough cubby space for each child. There is enough space for children to eat and sleep in the

same environment. The furniture offered is child size and has enough materials to accommodate

all the children in the classroom. There is space for children to enjoy books, puppets, cozy areas,

tabletop activities to promote fine motor skills and cognitive development. The dramatic play

area has enough materials to enhance learning through children's interests; staff will take the lead

and change the environment with curriculum themes. The classroom also has a water/sand

sensory box and art easel near the sink area. The block area is large enough to allow multiple

toddlers to engage with various blocks and away from the quiet area when it gets loud. The

restroom accommodates two children for toilet training and a changing table for the younger

toddlers.
