g. State the content of the current Code of Practice for Waxing
There are 5 subsections of the Code of Practice for Waxing, these include; hygiene, personal
appearance, sterilisation and sanitisation, disposal of waste and finally surfaces and floors.
j. Explain how to minimise and dispose of general and hazardous waste from
treatments
According to the controlled waste regulation of 1992, any wax waste that contains bodily
fluid such as blood for example, must be disposed of separately from other regular waste as it
is considered as a hazardous substance and can cause contamination and special arrangement
should therefore be made for its disposal by a registered waste carrier.
k. Describe the salon’s service times for waxing treatments and the importance
of completing services in a commercially viable time
Timings vary from 5 minutes, for example upper lip wax, up to 70 minutes, for example full
leg wax – however this varies on how many areas the client wants to wax too. Also
depending on the type of wax used this may alter timings too, this should be taken into
consideration when booking in the client to allow appropriate time management especially if
multiple clients are booked in.

g. Describe how to prepare and use the equipment and materials for work
Make sure you turn on the wax heater way ahead of time to allow for the wax to fully melt,
once it is melted set the heater to “ready” in order to keep the temperature steady and ready to
use.
j. Describe how to prepare yourself for carrying out waxing treatments
By wearing the appropriate PPE – such as a disposable apron and gloves. Make sure to also
have your hair tied back as to not get in the way; make sure to maintain good personal
hygiene too.
