If I had to choose what I feel I have learned about myself in terms of
Emotional Intelligence, first I’d like to acknowledge that we all have some
traits that could be identified as emotional intelligence. Deep into our
Week 1 readings, I did some thinking and came to the realisation that
emotions fluctuate and sort of metamorphose over time. I was (and still
am) an introvert, but when I have to meet people I try my best to treat
them well, and when I get the chance to hide, I do that too.

From the 19 factors I’ve read about, I choose No. 17 as the most
important.
Self-confidence, Self-Control, Achievement Drive - some simple
comments about each of the three traits the ‘star performer’ had:
Achievement Drive - This is the extent to which one wants, and is
motivated, to succeed. It is noteworthy though that one can have this trait,
without having the other two. I know many people that want very bad to
succeed, but don’t believe in themselves.
Self Confidence - The level of belief in oneself or optimism. I don’t see
how anyone with this trait wouldn’t have a dose of either or both of the
other two.
Self Control - The ability to to steer oneself away from wrong decisions or
actions. Anyone with self confidence will surely have self control.
That’s a combination of traits no one would say no to. For that, I believe
No. 19 is the most important.

In order to substantiate my claim, I’ll narrate a true life story. Alan (not
real name), while in secondary school (high school in the US), was a top
