Throughout my time attending Ashford I have received several feedback comments in
regards to suggested edits on my writing. Of these comments, there are just a few in which I can
remember taking into consideration and applying to better improve my abilities. Firstly, for
some reason I just cannot get a solid grasp on how to properly cite sources. Both in-text and in
the ‘references’ section included in the last page of a text. After what seems like hundreds of
written assignments, I still have to double back and refer to online resources to get citations
correct. Another comment I have received as feedback on multiple occasions for both writing
and in speaking is my uncanny ability to digress from the topic at hand. Sometimes leading me
down a rabbit hole of completely unrelated topics in a full blown rant. The gift of gab is a
blessing and a curse, my own cross to bear.
The most effective way I have found to interpret feedback is simply by proof reading and
double checking my work. The proper annotation of citations is not difficult to check for correct
implementation, but I often completely forget to include references altogether. In regards to
staying on topic, it is sometimes difficult to meet the word count requirement for several posts.
Especially those that are unrelatable or difficult to elaborate upon due to platitudinous topic
assignments. There is a fine line between simply filling pages to meet required standards and
slipping off into superfluous discussion.
Smaller issues I find myself struggling with are certain words I just can’t seem to wrap
my brain around. Restaurant, for example, is a word that I had to rely on auto-correct to be able
to correctly spell. One of the most frustrating words I still struggle with is “February”. I believe
