Performance reviews are an integral part of a solid organization. Without them it becomes
increasingly difficult to continue running an ethical and legitimate business. While almost all
businesses have some form of performance reviews, they are scheduled to have to help not only
the company but the employees and supervisory team running smoothly as possible. I have not
had that many performance appraisals (or reviews) in the last few years. I spent 5 ½ years at my l
last company and received one within that time frame, and that was only my 90-day evaluation.
The reality is that the entire company was lacking in following this highly encouraged and
important policy of evaluating performances regularly. It would have been incredibly helpful to
have been given regular appraisals to not only help me learn more and work better with my
colleagues but to also stay on top of my personal and organizational objectives. It also allows for
constructive feedback in order to further develop us as employees and plan for the future of the
business. In this paper, I will focus on the basic components of a successful performance
appraisal, the strategic advantages of sticking to a regular performance appraisal process and the
potential pitfalls, while also touching on the impacts and possibilities of discrimination based on
labor laws and regulations.
Performance appraisals are when an employee’s performance is reviewed and then corrective
actions may be suggested or planned to fix any downfalls to improve their future performance.

assessed, feedback is provided to the employee, and corrective action plans are designed,”
