What makes an effective leader?
There are many core values, qualities, and traits that an effective leader should have but
the most important quality is to be a good communicator and always looking forward to the
program’s success. Being an effective leader means to incorporate and honor the program’s
values with courage, confidence, passion, and commitment (Freeman et al., 2018). When in the
leadership role, you look out for your staff, students, and programs success. The children and
families always come first, and staff has the support they need to thrive in the classroom. A
good leader should take on the responsibility of analyzing and finding what type of leader they
are to further their knowledge, education and sharpen their skills for the success of the
program. An effective leader has a good foundation of early childhood development and
education to make informed decisions when needed, communicate properly to be understood,
show curiosity and motivation to learn, and possess a vision and have goals in mind for the
future and inspire those around them (Freeman et al., 2018).
Why do you want to be a program administrator?
There are many reasons that has encouraged me to want to be a program administrator
but the main one would have to be to have an input in the success of the children and staff
involved in the program and to have a positive impact on children, families, and staff. There is
nothing that means more to me than to encourage others by breaking barriers, encouraging and
being the change when needed. Often, we see that when staff members leave an early education
program, it’s because they did not feel supported, they were not being heard, and they were not
