Why people behave the way they do
In the “beginning” section of this article the first thought I thought of was my niece and
her father. Her father has always explained how his parents were never satisfied with whatever
he did, no matter what great accomplishment. Then after reading this section I looked back at
how he treats her and whenever they are playing with each he always asks her, “you love
daddy?” an exact example of the mother daughter relationship explained in this section. This
makes me think that his relationship with his mother could in the long run affect my niece, or
could this be a factor as to why my 3 year old niece always repeats an action after we laugh at
her? This is something that no one ever noticed or paid much attention too, but I after reading
this I think in it necessary to approach her a different way in order to not let these small actions
affect her in the future.
m
Another way this article can contribute to my personal life is helping build my
er as
relationships with my family. With my family I have a problem with jumping to conclusions and
co
judging them based off their acts. After reading this article I will no no longer do that and try to
eH w
figure out a better way to resolving problems with them. I tend to judge right away and come up

with a reason based off of my own VABES(Values, assumptions, beliefs, and expectations). I
rs e
need to understand whether it was any external or internal factors that led to them acting a
ou urc
certain way as also mentioned in Chapter 5 of our textbook Organizational Behavior as The
Attribution Theory. I believe that once I stop projecting my own beliefs as to the way someone
should act then it could lead to being easier for me in the workplace. As human resource major
o
and looking to become a human resource manager this could be a big downfall in my future
aC s
affecting how I treat my employees, misjudge situations, and taking things out of hand.
vi y re
Also understanding VABES is not going to be the same for everyone is important
because as a human resource manager I cannot let my personal VABES affect how I treat one
of my employees especially since my job is to understand that employees jobs satisfaction
ed d
needs to be high in order to make it a safe and comfortable place for people work. If I am
ar stu
someone who believes that everyones VABES needs to be in tune with mine then that will affect
my leading skills.
I also found the “Solidifying Tendencies” section very import in the way we lead because
as leader we cannot conform our employees to act as we do. We have to see that our

employees are there own person. They grew up in a different lifestyle and cultures, this means
Th
they have different beliefs. It is important for a leader to treat their employees as individuals not
a big group of people. For example, if an employee is a certain race they cannot be grouped as
just being latin. All latinos come from a specific part of South America with different culture,
beliefs, and values. By not acknowledging their individuality employees will feel neglected You
sh
simply cannot give up the way you were raised and something that you were conformed to your
whole life, because your job requires you to think a different way. This will lead employees to be
uncomfortable in your work environment which will lead to more turn over. The different
categories are humanity, regional culture, national culture, sub-national culture, organizational
culture, family culture, and individuality. As leader we must pay attention to all these different
