Training being one of the most efficient method impacting knowledge and skills in an
individual that has the inspiration and willingness to learn. Training establishes skills and the
technical knowhow on the job and provide result in resolving short-term skill differences.
The three types of training models that includes self-directed study, instructor-led training,
and on-the-job training (OJT) are methods that I have been exposed to for various training topics.
Working on an iron ore mining site as a junior engineer for ArcelorMittal (Africa biggest iron ore
mining company), one topic I was exposed to for two of the three training methods was the
installation of culvert that enable and broaden the minds of young engineers on the mining field
in terms of road construction for semi, drainages reconstruction with culvert to eradicate
corrosion, and road embankment for road safety.
My exposure in this mining company was back in 2013 where the training was provided both
instructor-led and on-the-job training. The training gives us the understanding and fundamental
on the job and learn though the training provided to us. The training of installation of culvert
start-up as a instructor-led training in the classroom where the information was presented by the
instructor via power point that enables us understand the fundamental and theorical aspects of the
