Section 1 Safety Training Definition And Objectives

[The abstract should be one paragraph of between 150 and 250 words. It is not indented.
Section titles, such as the word Abstract above, are not considered headings so they don’t use

The purpose of the training will be to teach the employee’s to properly calculate the

total fall clearance distance for a personal fall arrest system to avoid injury through proper

training. The calculation will include lanyard length, height of anchorage point relating to

where it attaches to the worker’s harness, distance of travel, worker height, d-ring shift, and

the addition of the safety factor. Utilizing the worksheet provided to calculate the distance

using the variables previously mentioned workers will be protected against accidental impact

with the level below. We will also discuss evaluating a swing fall hazard and how to mitigate

accidental injuries. My audience will be construction employee’s with previous training in

fall arrest systems that work at heights of 6 feet or above for construction and will require the

individual to work through scenarios provided from the osha website. (OSHA Technical

Manual (OTM) Section V: Chapter

4-Fall Protection in | Construction Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 2020)

The objectives will be to understand how to calculate the Total Free Fall Distance, and to

, recognize the potential hazards associated with falls at heights. To clarify that the worker has

grasped the objectives we will utilize interactive discussion between the class and instructor,

with an open

question and answer session. After the training the individual worker will be able to

calculate the Total Fall Distance and recognize hazards created from improper calculations

and swing fall hazards.

Section 2 Activity Based
Learning

To provide the adult learners with an interactive learning session to activities will

be performed, the first will be to have one or two of the participants don a fall arrest

system while the class observes and the second activity we will utilize a manikin and a

Fall arrest system to

demonstrate the importance of proper calculations. The participants will be given the height
of an
anchorage point from an elevated platform with the following information free fall distance,

deceleration distance, D-ring shift, back of D-ring height and safety factor. Once the group

has calculated the total fall clearance, we will set the manikin up and utilize the second story

deck to demonstrate the fall of an individual from that height. We will also utilize the

opportunity to point out the swing fall effect on an individual when falling from a height.)

Section 3 Origin of sources

The resources for the training are gathered from multiple venues, the opening

presentation will be the review of the OSHA standard 1910.140 – Personal fall protection

systems, and from the OTM (OSHA technical manual (OTM) | Section V: Chapter 4 – Fall

Protection in Construction | Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 2020) These

sources provide the foundation for the need of fall arrest systems and there use in

construction while working at heights. The next article that will be utilized is (Fall Protection

in Construction
