Rasmussen University
EEX2010 The Exceptional
Letter To Families
Dear,
I would like to invite you to an IEP meeting to talk about special education programs and services
for your child. The meeting attendees will consist of myself, the school principal, the district
administrator, the Speech Therapist, the Occupational Therapist, the School Counselor, and the Specials’
Teachers (P.E, Music, and Art0, and most importantly, you and whoever you may want to invite that is
closely involved in your child;s life and education. This is a time when we will discuss the best interests
and needs for your child and you will have a chance to share your own ideas and wishes for your child.
We will work together as one team in developing an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for
your child. It will consist of writing goals that are either academic, behavioral, social, or transition based
or a combination of all. These goals are written for your child’s most recognized areas of need. It will
consist of any accommodations or modifications that may be needed in the classroom that reflect the
best interest and needs of your child. These goals, accommodations, and modifications are all discussed
and based on your child’s present level of strengths and weaknesses, classroom performance, and
measurable baseline data from which the goals are created.
This meeting is an opportunity for you to meet all of the professionals who work with your child and for
you to provide them with valuable information. It’s important for you to remember that your input is
critical, as you know your child the best. I would love to share with you a few of my favorite family
focused resources that may be helpful regarding you and your child. Here are the links for each;
