every day. In today’s climate, with rapidly changing organizations, it becomes even more
important to develop a strong personal skill set to facilitate leading organizational change
smoothly (Aldawsari, 2020). Aside from the need to develop strong interpersonal skills, and
personal insight, leaders must have high rates of emotional intelligence as well (Aldawsari,
2020). This paper will elaborate on personal leadership skills gained throughout doctoral course
work, and explore how it aligns with the Scholar, Practitioner, Leader Model (SPL), coined by
the University of Phoenix.
Leadership Development Plan
Anyone thinking of becoming a great and effective leader will need to develop a
Leadership Development Plan (LDP). A LDP is an effective tool for the potential leader to
identify professionalized leadership goals, and to determine which methods will be needed to
evaluate success (Jefferies, 2018). It will be helpful for the potential leader to create a
framework so that they can navigate the leadership journey from a personal and professional
lens, which includes experiences (Jefferies, 2018).
Personally, my leadership plan will have several categories. I will need to assess where I
am now professionally, set goals that are within reach, constantly engage in training, and build
strong personal relationships with colleagues and people in my network. To gain a better
leadership picture of one’s self requires serious personal insight. It is easy for most to think of
