Case Study on Moral Status

All individuals possess own set of values, ethics and moral values developed over time,

shaped by their relationships, life experiences, own worldview and moral compass. The moral

compass of a person guides their routine decision making in their lives and professional careers

while helping them determine what is right and wrong. Besides, the moral compass allows

people out of situations involving different paths that look morally right but containing varying

resolutions and outcomes. In the healthcare sector, it is essential to not only take account of your

moral compass and personal worldview but also that of others around you.

1. What is the Christian view of the nature of human persons, and which theory of

moral status is it compatible with? How is this related to the intrinsic social value

Christians state that human beings are created by God and in His image, hence have some

knowledge and cognitive abilities absent in other objects. Christian theologians state that their

place determines the standing of objects in the creation of God and the object’s appeal to humans

to act as a steward of nature. Items hold an ontological position since they are also part of the

creation, and people have to respect this position (Jaworska & Tannenbaum, 2013). Nature has

moral stance and therefore, the moral status of ecology. That means humans are expected to act

as moral agents and make judgements on what is right and wrong. According to Beauchamp &

Childress (2013), being a moral agent conforms with the intrinsic value of persons since they can

identify motives judged as good or bad. Besides, the formation and bevelment of humans by God

builds the human dignity. That means intrinsic human dignity has a moral status of the human

being. The ideology is what provides the moral status of the embryo or fetus.
