Have you ever had a loved one fall at home? How did it make you feel afterwards? “A

fall is defined as the unintended trip on the floor or lower plane” (Oliveria et al., 2016). Most

falls in the elderly can happen for several reasons. Often people think that the occasional trip is

normal. It’s not. If you find your loved one tripping over a rug when you know they normally

wouldn’t that is a big change.

My father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2016. In his beginning stages, he

developed syncope which caused him to get dizzy and fall. I immediately knew that something

wasn’t right. All my life I’ve known my father to be a very strong hardheaded man. For him to

let me know that he had been falling alerted me. He then went to his doctor and his doctor told

him that he was in stage 4 of lung cancer. (just IMO- I would say his doctor diagnosed him

with stage 4 lung cancer.)

People can be in denial at times. Different changes in people’s everyday life can play a

part in a fall.(I would combine these 2 sentences with “such as”) Age, medication, and living

conditions. It’s true that when you get older your equilibrium(balance) is thrown off. As we age,

some of us are going to be prescribed more and more medication as well. A lot of medications

do not pair well with others. This may result in frequent falls. Some elderly people become
